Marathon Plan 
A marathon plan or training
guide is essential to success in preparing and attaining your
goal to running a marathon. The fact is the training time
needed to prepare for a marathon is simply too long to simply
train for one without a proven plan. Whether you are a beginner
or an experienced runner, do yourself a favor and buy a quality
marathon training plan.
However, to make sure you get a quality one, we will discuss
a few things that a good marathon plan should
have:
1. A proven, tested technique that other
regular people say worked for
them.
Personal endorsements are very important
here. It is
one thing for a proven marathon runner to put together a
plan and say it works. It is another for a regular person
to put together a plan and then, show that plan works for
other regular people.
In these situations, put your
money with the plan for regular people as their training
schedule and tips will mirror more where you are coming from.
This is simply a case of where the better coach will be one who
does not have running come naturally to them. The out of shape
non runner is a much better coach. They will be able to point
out all the problems they had and will be able to share them
with you for your benefit. In addition, and maybe even more
importantly, they can show you what worked for them. This type
of help is a huge advantage to those who are non
runners.
2. Make sure the plan is set for an
appropriate time frame of around 6 months or more of
training.
If the plan asserts a claim that you can be
ready for a marathon with just a few months of training,
pass on these marathon plans.
Odds are they are either scams or
suited for professional runners who have a built in advantage
that regular runners will not have. Basically, I am saying
avoid any fantastic stories. If it sounds too good to be true,
it probably is. Instead, take the more conservative approach.
This will be better for your training because you will know
this plan worked for the majority of people and so it can work
for you. However, it will also allow your body to adjust to the
workout. Many people fail to realize how significant the
recovery and adjustment time can be for non runners to get used
to running at long distances. For these reasons, go for plans
that are geared towards about 6 months.
3. Make sure the person creating the plan
genuinely cares about non runners or inexperienced
runners.
Basically, you can tell a lot by how valuable
the program will be based on the general message of the
product. Is the product more of a sales piece or does it
really seem to understand where you are coming
from?
If you can feel the empathy from
person making the product, you know that he/she has really
walked or in this case run in your shoes. This is very
important because it will highlight the fact that his/her true
motive is really to help people like him or her. In this case,
that person will be you. If your gut tells you they care, the
odds increase you will get a quality, comprehensive product.
Again, this is not a knock on the marathoners who run one every
year. It is just to point out that their frame of reference is
not what non runners or first time marathoners need. For this
reason, pick those that seem to be offering help more than just
a product to make some money. One way you can determine this is
to see what they include in their product. If they offer a
number of tips, offer the product in different formats, these
are signs they truly care about their
audience.
By keeping these tips in mind, you should be able to
find a quality marathon plan.
